Roberto Berni Canani, MD, PhD, is a professor of pediatrics and coordinator of the Food Allergy Unit at the University Federico II of Naples, Italy. He graduated cum laude with a degree in medicine and surgery and was awarded a PhD in Pediatric Sciences.
Dr. Berni Canani is internationally recognized as an expert in pediatric gastroenterology, food allergy and nutrition. He has developed an interdisciplinary research team and integrated clinical program to better understand the pathogenic mechanisms of food-induced diseases. His research involves the pathophysiology of food allergy, including the systemic and local immune response, intestinal microflora, and mechanisms of oral tolerance. Dr. Berni Canani is vice president of the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and a member of many other national and international scientific societies. He is the author of more than 150 scientific papers, as well as numerous book chapters and reviews. He has received several awards for his research in pediatric gastroenterology. He is past associate editor of the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, and associate editor of World Journal of Gastroenterology.
