Pediatrician's Corner: A Conversation with a Pediatric Psychologist

You must be signed in to view this CME course.

This education is about:

  • The most common reason for referral to pediatric psychology: anxiety
  • How anxiety presents differently at different ages
  • Key developmental milestones at various ages that may underlie the potential for anxiety
  • Other conditions that anxiety may be mistaken for in toddlers, middle schoolers, and in the early teenage years
  • What a treatment plan for anxiety might look like

Why it Matters:

Pediatricians possess the expertise to recognize an incredible range of illnesses, disease states, and developmental red flags. They’re also trained to make informed decisions about when specialized care is truly necessary. Knowing when a referral to a subspecialist is warranted is rooted in having a robust understanding of – and adherence to – clinical practice guidelines. Yet, these guidelines are underutilized by a large percentage of pediatricians. Empowering pediatricians to rely on established guidelines while also improving the interface of primary and specialty care in pediatrics is central to improving patient care outcomes.

Target Audience:

A national and international audience of primary care physicians (PCPs), pediatricians, and general practitioners (GPs), and other healthcare providers involved in childhood health.
